'BOND' STREET
James Bond actor Daniel Craig will be having his martinis shaken, not stirred, at the Park Imperial building on West 56th Street.
Craig is moving into a high-floor three-bedroom, three-bathroom rental with Central Park views next week -- and paying $38,000 a month for the privilege. The twice-divorced Craig, 41, who is dating 30-year-old film producer Satsuki Mitchell, has chosen an apartment that was formerly occupied by another stud, NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. Gordon rented it for $26,000 a month before moving into a condo he bought at 15 Central Park West.
Craig is in town to star in a new Broadway play with fellow Hollywood hottie Hugh Jackman. Craig is making his New York theater debut in Keith Huff's "A Steady Rain," about two Chicago cops whose work tests their lifelong friendship.
Park Imperial residents are already buzzing about future Craig sightings in their gym, which we hear was a big selling point for the actor. The A-line of apartments at the building now includes Craig and gym rats Sean "Diddy" Combs and Christopher Meloni of "Law & Order." Deepak Chopra, who also lives in the Park Imperial, has been spotted in the gym, as well.
$140K for top rental
Despite the weak market, it still seems like anything goes at the Waldorf Towers on East 50th Street -- where a six-bedroom, 6½-bath apartment is back on the market for $140,000 a month, the highest price for a rental in the city.
This 33rd-floor unit, one of the private residences of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, was once the home of Cole Porter (and where the musician wrote "You're the Top" and "Don't Fence Me In"). Frank Sinatra also lived in the 6,000-square-foot residence, which includes a 24-foot marble entry gallery. And filmmaker Oliver Stone recently checked out the unit as a possible home for one of his greed-driven characters in his upcoming "Wall Street" sequel
While the hotel has moved Porter's black Steinway grand piano into the lobby, the rest of the splendiferous sanctuary remains. Many of the details were added by rubber/tire heiress Trinka Rynne, who lived in the apartment for about a decade. She added rooms and even put in a hothouse orchid room reminiscent of one in the film-noir classic "The Big Sleep," starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
The last long-term resident coughed up $140,000 a month for five months and left in April. Since then, the unit has been rented on a per-day or per-week basis, says exclusive broker Margaret Bay of Brown Harris Stevens, who we hear has been showing the unit a lot.
