Casino Royale and James Bond have scooped two gongs at the ITV's first National Movie Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall. The winners were voted for by the public over the internet, phone and by filling in a form which had been made available at UK cinemas

Casino Royale, the latest Bond adventure - starring Daniel Craig - won best action and adventure movie, beating the likes of Die Hard 4.0 and Transformers.

The James Bond franchise also won the special recognition award at the event.

The movie's producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson accepted the honour.

"It's great to be voted for by the public," Wilson said.

Craig accepted the action/adventure kudos for “Casino Royale” via video link from Lithuania, where he is filming, but that did not satisfy presenter Foxx, who leaped into the front rows of the crowd to present Dench, who plays M in the Bond movies, with the trophy, joking, “I’ll give it to his boss.”

The inaugural National Movie Awards on Blighty’s terrestrial web ITV got off to a flying start thanks to popular home turf wins for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Casino Royale” and “Hot Fuzz” and a healthy dose of star wattage.

Nominees in the new kudofest are the pics in each genre that have banked the most B.O. coin in Blighty between October and August. All awards were decided by public vote.

“Phoenix” was the big winner of the night, scooping three of the six prizes, including for family film.

There were also wins for “Phoenix” in both acting categories. Daniel Radcliffe collected the male performance nod, with more public votes than Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp and “Phoenix” co-star Rupert Grint. Emma Watson pocketed the female nod. Other contenders were Judi Dench, Keira Knightley and Eva Green.

The awards, held by the Thames at the Royal Festival Hall, drew big crowds eager to see talent from both sides of the pond walking the red carpet.

Those attending as either nominees or award presenters included Dench, Radcliffe, Helen Mirren, Simon Pegg, Ioan Gruffudd, Dustin Hoffman, Jamie Foxx, Christian Slater and Mischa Barton.

Edgar Wright’s spoof actioner “Hot Fuzz” bagged the comedy prize. Collecting the trophy, pic’s star Pegg joked, “It’s great to win the first award; now we can get drunk. Isn’t that why we are all here?”

Pegg has good reason to be in high spirits -- his latest laffer, “Run, Fat Boy, Run,” had topped the Brit B.O. charts for three weekends.

A special recognition award was given jointly to Bond franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Former 007 Roger Moore presented the award to the Eon duo, describing Broccoli as his “favorite Bond girl” ever.

The 90-minute awards show was followed by a VIP reception at the swanky Claridges hotel.

The kudofest produced by Indigo Television aired in primetime Saturday on ITV.

I have to say that I am really disappointed about not meeting Daniel. I missed his video message but saw it on the TV last night. I did have a great time at the National Movie Awards. I didn't meet any of the fans on this forum at all, so I was too shy to talk with them.

I met celebrities too, spoke to them and took photos with them. Ron and Hermoine from Harry Potter (I hate Harry Potter, but they are huge. Emma Watson had the award with her, it was so nice. They are nice actually) They also signed my autograph book. I met Judi Dench too, she signed my autograph book, she talked to me too. She signed 'Best Wishes Judi Dench M - 007. I was godsmacked that I met someone from Casino Royale. Judi actually talked about Daniel. Yes, she was really naughty about him. My friend told her that me and her liked James Bond, and Judi asked her if she liked Daniel, and my friend said no, but my friend(me) does. Judi looked at me and talked to me, asked me if I liked Daniel. I told her yes I do love him and think he's phwoar! Judi laughed and had twinkles in her eyes. She said 'Yes I agree, he's very good looking. He's a very good Bond' She then said sorry that she have to go and said 'Nice to meet you all'. I was so shocked that I met M! I really wanted to ask her about Daniel's penis, is it true that it's a monster or not. But it was too rude to ask! I also met Nick Park, who created Wallace and Gromit. I also saw celebrities - Daniel R, Helen Mirren, some others from Harry Potter, Jamie Foxx, Ioan Gruffyd and more - shame that I didn't get more autographs!
