Bond 22's Climax Sequence Revealed
Some interesting tidbits have come out of the Bond production camp regarding Bond 22's climactic final sequence.
That's right. We don't have a movie or villain name, but the finale of the film is already in the works and is currently being filmed in Siena, Italy.
CAUTION! SPOILERS AHEAD!
Don't read if you don't want to know!
A Times Online article has a rather lengthy profile of the latest movie shoot that started this past Thursday. Apparently, Bond will be back on horseback for the climactic sequence through the small Tuscan village - while a traditional horse race of the region (called the Palio) will be held:
The next Bond film is to reach its climax in a chase against the background of the Palio, the centuries-old and controversial bareback horse race in the historic Tuscan hill town of Siena.
The cameras start to roll this Thursday, when the Palio is due to be run. Animal rights campaigners seized on the disclosure to protest that the film would glamorise a race that was "a relic of medieval brutality." They say that 50 horses have been killed since 1970, with many others injured.
The next Bond, the 22nd in the 007 canon and a sequel to the phenomenally successful Casino Royale, has yet to be given a title and is referred to simply as Bond 22. Directed by Marc Forster, it again stars Daniel Craig as Bond, with Judi Dench as M.
The plot is being kept under wraps. However, the town council at Siena has given permission for a climax in which Bond chases the villain through the steep and narrow cobbled streets and then pursues him across the rooftops and through the underground medieval aqueducts, while the horses thunder round the Campo, the main square.
The film-makers have agreed to "strict conditions" obliging them to treat the race with "full respect," according to Il Giornale. They are forbidden from showing any violence "involving either people or animals" that may occur. This week’s filming will focus on the race, with scenes involving actors inserted later. There will be 14 cameras placed at strategic positions around the arena but helicopters have been banned.
How awesome is that?! Not since 1985's A View To A Kill and 1987's The Living Daylights have we seen Bond on a horse, let alone in a race/chase - should be very interesting to see how Craig handles himself!
Speaking of Craig...
Craig says Bond 'has to deal with revenge'
In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Daniel Craig has revealed some small insight into Bond's demeanor in '22.'
Amongst some comments about his other acting endeavors, here is the small piece regarding Bond:
Where would you like to see Bond go next?
Well, I think that we've set up an idea now that there's an organization out there. He also has to deal with revenge because he has lost the girl. I think the process [of how he becomes Bond] is still happening. We haven't finished the [story] arc. Bond is still maybe too headstrong and he doesn't make all of the right decisions. I want to continue what we've set up in the last movie. We made a good movie and I just want another good movie.
I hope it's at least a semi-revival of the criminal organization Bond was pitted against in his early cinematic career - S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (Special Executor for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, Extortion). And if so, will we have a fourth iteration of Blofeld in our midst?
One can only hope!
