James Bond star Daniel Craig will soon be getting his hands on the world's most coveted golden statue - reports the Daily Mail.

The actor, who gave the 007 film franchise a much needed shot of adrenaline with his rugged make-over of the fictional secret agent, has agreed to be a presenter at this year's Academy Awards ceremony at the Kodak Centre in Beverly Hills next month.

Executives from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences observed how well Casino Royale went down with audiences and critics.

More importantly, the picture took a whopping half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office ($100 million of that in the UK alone).

With just a few days to go until votes for Oscar nomination are due, let me make a last-minute push for what on the surface might seem a laughable candidate -- but bear with me!

I am speaking of one Daniel Craig as James Bond 007 in "Casino Royale," and I am not joking. Craig has entirely remade the concept of James Bond as a character, and with 40 years of prehistory, that's hard to do. His Bond was not only totally unlike the performances of the five actors who had played Bond before him, but it was a fully realized character, with emotions, tough choices and real acting involved. Plus, "Casino Royale" is a fine film, co-written by Oscar-winner Paul Haggis and featuring an excellent supporting performance from another Oscar-winner, Judi Dench, among others.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese audiences got their first chance to see James Bond in action on the big screen on Monday -- uncut and uncensored.

"Ling ling qi" -- Chinese for 007 -- has never before been officially released in the world's most populous country, and new James Bond
Daniel Craig and leading lady Eva Green flew in especially for the event.

"It's been an ambition of mine to get here, and I wish I had more time," a casually dressed Craig told reporters while sipping coffee in a five-star Beijing hotel ahead of the premier.

Poor quality pirated DVD versions of "Casino Royale" have been available on China's streets for weeks, costing just a little more than $1 and underlining the risk movie makers face in the world's most populous country. :D

An annual list of aspiring young actors tipped for greatness has been unveiled by European Film Promotion yesterday (10JAN07) as part of the organisation's Shooting Stars competition. Those shortlisted, including the UK's KATE DICKIE (RED ROAD) and Ireland's PADRAIC DELANEY (THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY), will be given the chance to meet with casting directors, acting colleagues, directors and producers at the International Berlin Film Festival next month (10-12FEB07). The Shooting Stars initiative, now in its tenth year, has supported the careers of almost 200 aspiring young actors over the past decade. Previous Shooting Stars include new 007 DANIEL CRAIG, French actress LUDIVINE SAGNIER and GOOD BYE LENIN! star DANIEL BRUHL.
