DANIEL CRAIG - CRAIG'S CONFUSING SPIELBERG CALL

Actor DANIEL CRAIG feared he misheard STEVEN SPIELBERG's name when he received a call to meet the director - and was being duped into doing business with a porn producer.

The British star's planned meeting with Spielberg was shrouded in mystery, because the director's staff refused to divulge any information other than the time and place of the appointment.

And the bizarre call left Craig convinced he was either the victim of an elaborate prank or poised to meet a movie-maker bearing a similar name to Steven Spielberg, as opposed to the OSCAR-winning legend himself.

He tells British magazine EMPIRE, "I just got a call to go and see him in Paris. And I did. I didn't f**king believe it because they were being so secretive. I thought it was a f**king joke.

"I thought I'd get there and they'd say, 'It's f**king STEFAN SPIELMAN, mate. Porn producer.'"

However, Craig was proved wrong when he was greeted by Spielberg - and offered a starring role in his latest movie VENGEANCE.

У Дэниела, по мнению англичан, практически отсутствует какой-либо акцент, его речь совершенно нейтральна, по ней трудно определить географические и социальные корни актера. Это необычно, т.к. носители почти всегда имеют какой-нибудь акцент, хотя сами англичане в той же дискусии отмечают, что в последнее время речь молодежи все чаще звучит так же "нейтрально" и речь их детей кардинально отличается от речи их родителей и тем более бабушек/дедушек...

His accent is very strange. It's about the most neutral accent of any major British actor I can think of (which is why in many respects he makes such a good James Bond). It's not upper-class, it's not middle class, it's not working class. It's just thoroughly uninflected. He (from his biography) stems from upper-working-class stock (which has always been a fount of talent). To a great extent, he sounds like everyman. Whenever I hear myself speaking, I am astounded at how posh I sound. My accent is fairly neutral, but I suppose the closest analogue these days would be Rupert Everett. Daniel Craig's accent, by comparison, is not only devoid of geographical markers, but of class markers too. He's a cipher.

I think this is quite common in the South of England though the further west you go the accents get stronger. Some people still have their regional accents but this 'neutral' (sure their must be a term for it) accent seems to be taking over. I live to the South West and generally the new generations speak nothing like their parents/grandparents. The folks where I originally hail from think my two young kids sound incredibly 'posh' but it's really just this kind of 'non-accent' accent if that makes sense LOL!

Craig has a Liverpudlian accent in "The Trench".

As he came to London when he was 16 and probably has spent more time here than in the North, it is really easy for someone to pick up the local speak.

But in the past, the drama schools encouraged the young actors to lose any kind of accent. It is only in the past 15 plus years that accents have been encouraged.

I have a South London accent. When I am with my children, I speak 'properly' without any kind of accent. Verbally crossing my P's and Q's so to speak!

When I am with my siblings, I tend to return to the accent and speech of my childhood.

When Daniel acted in 1996's Kiss and Tell, it seemed he didn't know how to groom himself properly, and ended up bleaching his hair. We're also confused about the vacant, glaring eyes. What an improvement for our latest James Bond.
