 Stars arrive for Baftas ceremony Stars are arriving for the Orange Baftas awards ceremony in London. Casino Royale star Daniel Craig, a best actor nominee for his performance as James Bond, said: "Win or lose, it's going to be a good night." The film picked up nine nominations, while royal drama The Queen leads the field with 10, including one for Dame Helen Mirren as best actress. The ceremony, seen as one of the most important in the global film calendar, is being held at the Royal Opera House. For the first time in six years, the awards will not be hosted by comedian Stephen Fry, who stepped down last year. BBC presenter Jonathan Ross will step in to front the event for the first time. Antiquorum and Omega will be auctioning the very 2 watches that were worn by Daniel for his role as James Bond. The watches will be sold in the same condition as they were after Daniel Craig’s stunts on the Casino Royale set. The auction will take place on Sunday 15th April in Geneva.

ROME — RAI Cinema has acquired rights for Italy to "The Golden Compass" from New Line. 
Another obvious point for establishing awards potential comes from films in the same vein as those that have drawn Oscars in the past. Among those titles there's New Line's "The Golden Compass," which echoes "The Lord of the Rings." "Compass" is based on the first book of a trilogy about a fantasy world created by a British author (Philip Pullman), and it reps a massive bet for the mini-major. 
Bond Star Daniel Craig Named Best Actor 
Best Actor -- "...We close out the top ten with new James Bond Daniel Craig and V for Vendetta's Hugo Weaving. Craig did exactly what was asked of him in Casino Royale. He recreated James Bond as the more cultured brute that author Ian Fleming had imagined when he wrote the character. The result was a fantastic reboot for the series and new life for a character that many people had outgrown.
