Daniel Craig Won't Make His Neck Disappear

You can't really tell from these pictures, just because it's from the neck up, but Daniel Craig has a rockin' bod. I know, because I've seen "Casino Royale." Right now, he's in the midst of promoting his film, "The Golden Compass," but is also doing work to prepare for "Bond 22." And according to Craig, this time around, he plans on being more agile, instead of just beefing up. His training will consist of more cardio like running and boxing, not just lifting weights. "I won't look physically much different, but I won't be as 'no neck' as I was last time," he tells People. I didn't notice that his neck had disappeared--maybe that's because I was staring so intently at that little swimsuit he was wearing. He could have been wearing a kabuki mask and I wouldn't have blinked an eye.

LONDON (Reuters) - He's jumping off tall buildings again, but this time it is just rehearsals ahead of the next James Bond blockbuster due in theatres in 2008.

British actor Daniel Craig, who won over the skeptics with his dark and dangerous interpretation of the world's most famous spy in his hit Bond debut "Casino Royale", is set to reprise the role in an as yet untitled sequel.

"We are rehearsing stunts and I'm throwing myself off tall buildings ... again," Craig said in a recent interview.

Asked whether "Bond 22" would be based on an Ian Fleming novel in the same way as "Casino Royale", he replied:

"It's a completely new story and it does go straight on from the end of the last one. We've picked some themes that come up in the last movie ... They are pretty fundamental ones and they're good fun to do."

The 39-year-old hesitated before accepting the role of Bond in "Casino Royale", aware that he would be expected to commit to several more films in the hugely successful franchise and run the risk of being typecast as an action hero.

But Craig said he had had few problems doing what he wanted to do since then, and the clout that Bond has given him had actually opened up new possibilities.

"I produced a movie this year which has been a new experience," he said of "Flashbacks of a Fool" due out next year. Craig also stars in the tale of a fading Hollywood star who examines his past after the death of his best friend.

"It may happen (that I am typecast)," he told Reuters. "Maybe I should just relax and let it happen. Maybe I'm just working too hard."

Craig next appears in cinemas in early December in "The Golden Compass", a big-budget adaptation of Philip Pullman's acclaimed novel "Northern Lights".

A fan of the books, Craig always saw himself playing the explorer Lord Asriel. As with Bond, the role will probably mean having to commit to more films, because "Northern Lights" is the first installment in a trilogy.

"On a completely selfish level ... I would really like to continue telling this story," he said.

Pullman fans are concerned that the Hollywood version has watered down the theme of religion, while a U.S. Catholic group has called for a boycott of "The Golden Compass", fearing it will attract young readers to books it says are anti-Christian.

Craig defended the film, which also features Nicole Kidman.

"I think it does stand up. It's an incredibly enjoyable couple of hours."

But he would have welcomed the inclusion of more overt religious content.

"I wish there was, because I think the debate that Philip Pullman raises is incredibly healthy," he said.

"I think the thing that Philip Pullman has done so spectacularly is using the platform of a children's book to deal with very adult themes. My hope is that people will watch this film and read the books."

The first images from UK pre-production of the 22nd James Bond film hit the national press yesterday. Two shots of Daniel Craig in rehearsals were published in British tabloid The Daily Star. Craig was in the south of England on Thursday 13th December to practice his speedboat skills on a lake in Hampshire.

The paper claims that Craig 'let slip' that the film will not feature a car chase. This appears to be idle speculation, as earlier location reports from Italy hinted that 007 would chase down Siena's narrow underground alleys and medieval aqueducts in his Aston Martin. Earlier this week, the company confirmed the return of the DBS from Casino Royale.

The last time to Bond stunt team were spotted practicing boat manoeuvres and stunts on a lake in Hampshire was in the lead up to filming for "The World Is Not Enough" (1999), which ultimately took place on the River Thames in London.

There is no hint yet as to where the real Bond 22 action will be shot, but locations for the film will include Panama, Italy and Austria.

While the eagerly awaited new James Bond flick continues to be shrouded in mystery, fans have been given a glimpse of the action the latest spy thriller will contain.

Some high-speed water manoeuvres are involved it seems, after the film's leading man, Daniel Craig, was spotted practicing his speed boat skills at the weekend on a lake in Hampshire.

While there's no hint as to where the real boat action will be shot, possibilities include Panama, Italy or Austria, all of which have been revealed as filming locations for the new movie, due out next November.

The title for Daniel's second outing as 007 - which follows on directly from the events of Casino Royale - is yet to be revealed. The handsome Brit dropped hints about it, however, while promoting his latest film, fantasy adventure The Golden Compass.

"It's more of a number," revealed the Chester-born actor. "Because the first movie dealt with him earning his 00 status, and now he is 007 for the first time".
