James Bond, a.k.a. Daniel Craig, in town for "A Steady Rain" dines at Primola

Last May Page Six made a lot of female New Yorkers happy with their scoop that both Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman were coming to Broadway for "A Steady Rain".

Well with the musical beginning previews September 10th that time is here. Daniel Craig was spotted Monday at Primola with the show's producer Barbara Broccoli (who also oversees the Bond franchise) and her husband Fred Zollo.

Interestingly enough, Daniel was spotted at Primola with Barbara in September of 2008 by Variety writer Liz Smith. There is serious speculation that the next Bond film, number 23, is filming in New York City and will feature a cameo by Upper East Side eatery.

Craig's co-star Jackman, who earned a Tony award for his work in "The Boy From Oz", has taken up residence in New York working on a number of projects. The X-Men star not afraid to go out, even with his mass of admirers, hitting places like Monkey Bar, Jean Georges Restaurant and Da Silvano with his family.

Primola is located at 1226 2nd Avenue, between 64th Street and 65th Street. Owner Guiliano Zuliani, owner, is a commonly seen walking about and pampering his patrons. The best way to make a reservation (which is highly recommended) is by calling their main line at (212) 758-1775.

Playbill.com notes that tickets for A Steady Rain — the two-character Keith Huff play that will co-star Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman — have yet to go on sale to the general public, but the production has already taken in millions.

Variety reports that the play, which will be directed by Tony Award nominee John Crowley, has an advance of $3 million solely from the American Express cardholders pre-sale, which began July 11. Tickets will go on sale to the general public July 25 at 12:01 AM ET.

James Bond and the Boy From Oz are not regular visitors to the Cook County courthouse. But then, Thursday was an unusual day at 26th and California.

Around noon, the movie stars Daniel Craig (the current Bond, left) and Hugh Jackman (a Broadway star and the most recent host of the Academy Awards, below) arrived at the Cook County Criminal Courts at 2600 S. California Ave., unannounced.

Before long, deputies' hearts were a-twitter. "They came in, best we can tell, with everyone else and walked around pretty nondescript," said Cook County Sherriff's spokesman Steve Patterson, adding that the court was not told of their arrival in advance. The actors confirmed their identities when asked.

Craig and Jackman were traveling incognito on a Chicago research trip for their upcoming Broadway play, "A Steady Rain." Penned by the Chicago writer Keith Huff and first seen at the Chicago Dramatists theater, "A Steady Rain" is an intensely realistic play about two born-and-bred Chicago police officers trying to deal with the pressures of their job.

Craig (an Englishman) and Jackman (an Australian) are playing those police officers. In short, they were spending time scoping out Chicago cops in their natural habitats. According to a New York spokesman for the play, the visit to Chicago had been kept a closely guarded secret to allow the actors time and space to do the requisite research for their roles. It's no secret anymore. By late Thursday night, innumerable tweets had reported Jackman and Craig sightings at various iconic Chicago locales.

If only Jackman and Craig had announced themselves in advance, Patterson said, there were several female courthouse deputies "who gladly would have provided a personal tour."

Broadway’s fall season packed with celebs
Movie and television stars such as Daniel Craig, Sienna Miller and James Spader are heading to the Broadway stage this fall.

Last October, when Katie Holmes made her Broadway debut in All My Sons, the Hollywood celebrity had the spotlight to herself. This fall season, the Great White Way will be packed with movie stars.

The celebrity-studded roster begins in September with A Steady Rain, starring 007 actor Daniel Craig and the X-Men’s Hugh Jackman. Soon after, Hamlet will open with Jude Law. And following that is Sienna Miller’s Broadway debut in After Miss Julie; Julia Stiles and Bill Pullman in Oleanna; and James Spader in Race.

Producers are calling the convergence of stars a coincidence. They say that shows come to Broadway when the casting is secured and a theater is available and that there was no extra push to feature a large number of celebrities at the same time.

Still, the wealth of star-power should help boost ticket sales in the middle of a major recession. So far attendance is down 8.4% this season from the same period a year ago, and grosses are off 2.4%.

“Broadway is not a cookie cutter business and a great brand name, playwright or well known actor does not ensure a success, but it certainly creates interest and excitement for Broadway,” said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League.

Despite recession, Broadway booming

The chances of repeating last spring's glut of top-notch draws, with opening after opening earning rave reviews and must-see status, are slim.
But the upcoming season lineup -- at least on paper --offers commercial heft, with offerings such as "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" and "The Addams Family" both coming in the spring and the play "A Steady Rain," starring B.O. magnets Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig in the wings for late September.
Like most seasons, many of the new heavyweight commercial and awards contenders won't hit town until spring, but it's shaping up to be a busy fall.
At the center of the excitement: "A Steady Rain."
The Jackman-Craig show could match the dizzying sales of such straight-play offerings as Julia Roberts starrer "Three Days of Rain," the Nathan Lane-Matthew Broderick "The Odd Couple" and Billy Crystal's "700 Sundays."
Even before tickets to "Steady Rain" went on sale to the general public, the cop drama racked up a $3 million advance solely from an American Express pre-sale offer.
The show, which opens Sept. 29 at the Schoenfeld Theater and bumps the top ticket price for a play to $130, looks likely to clean up in premium ticket sales. And there could be a ripple effect. Mallalieu notes that the publicity surrounding the Craig-Jackman outing has boosted Broadway focus among group ticket buyers.
"Whether they want 'Steady Rain' or not, it's sparked everybody's interest," he says.
If Craig and Jackman don't satiate the appetite for thinking-woman's crumpet, there's Jude Law, driving impressive advance sales for the Broadway transfer of the Donmar Warehouse "Hamlet." The London import opens Oct. 6 at the Broadhurst.

Sienna also said she was going to be "very homesick" when she moves to New York to play Miss Julie in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Patrick Marber's After Miss Julie opposite English actor Jonny Lee Miller.

She said there would be an upside though: "I'll have lots of mates there too, Daniel (Craig) will be there and Jude (Law) will be there."

Jude will be playing Hamlet on Broadway when he completes the run at the Wyndham's Theatre in London and Daniel will feature alongside X-Men star Hugh Jackman in A Steady Rain, a play about two Chicago policeman.
